This morning we had a real nail biter with Colby College. Very windy conditions made doubles tough. Going into the match I felt great about doubles because Etienne was back in the doubles line-up. I figured he and Jake would be a lock at #2. Unfortunately they got steamrolled 8-3. At #3 Dan and Justin went down a break and then went on a streak winning the last 4 games for a 8-6 win. At #1 Quin and Christoph were cruising up 4-1 (two breaks). However the Colby team caught fire and were able to win 7 of the last 8 games to win 8-5.
Tough spot being down 1-2 in doubles. Especially when you think you should have won at least 2 of the matches! In singles we showed a great amount of maturity and rolled matches #3, #4, #5, and #6. I'm not sure of the exact scores but I think the matches came off in the following order.
#6 Christoph won 6-0, 6-1
#4 Nadeem won 6-0, 6-1
#3 Jake won 6-0, 6-1
#5 Quin won 6-2, 7-5. Note: Quin decided to keep the match interesting by being up 5-2 match point (serving) and then dropping most of the next points to even the match at 5-5! He finally buckled down to break serve and serve out the match at 6-5.
Colby is very good up top. Dan lost at #2 7-5, 6-0 and Chris lost at #1 6-4, 7-6.
Immediately after the Colby match Team B took stage against Westminster College. This is an experienced team that has been the NCAA III Team Tournament the past two years. We simply had too much firepower sweeping the match 9-0.
Sorry for the short post. I'll try to update scores later tonight.
